Q: Why won’t the images on Twitter load even though I have it whitelisted?
A: The images from twitter are drawn from a different domain, .twimg.com, which is categorized as a “Social Networking site”, as a result WebTitan blocks everything coming from this domain. To solve this problem add .twimg.com to your whitelist.
Q: How can I set up WebTitan to operate as a transparent proxy?
A: WebTitan can be set up to operate as a transparent proxy by going to the System Setup > Proxy tab and enabling ‘WCCP\Transparent Proxy’. Note that for transparent proxying, an IP address for the router is not required.
Externally to WebTitan, network traffic must be directed to the appliance by either using a network device or configuring the client browser to use WebTitan as a default gateway as follows.
- Open up Network Connections
- Right click the Network and select properties
- Then select the correct protocol (Internet Protocol Version 4)
- Then click the properties button and enter in the ‘Default gateway’ field the IP address of the WebTitan appliance
Q: How to block general web access for a user or group while still allowing access to selected sites?
A: To block users on a policy from all sites, go to the Policies, edit policy > Web Filter tab and enable ‘Sin bin users’. Then if you wish for them to be able to access a certain site, just whitelist it (e.g. .google.ie) and set the whitelisting option to ‘bypass filtering’.
